What Can I Do?

If you are reading this and wondering what you can do to help the plight of the orphan, then you have come to the right page!

There are many many things you can do to help! First off, pray. Yes, pray. Ask God to show you His heart for the fatherless. Ask Him to give you eyes to see them the way He does. Imagine yourself being alone without a family, forsaken, hungry, afflicted.

Maybe God will give you a heart to adopt. Maybe He will call you to help feed those who are hungry and alone. Maybe He will ask you to help a family who is struggling to raise the funds for an adoption. Whatever it is, He will show you. He will stir your heart. God loves and cares for the orphans passionately and looks after each one. He will help you to understand the part He wants you to play in His mission.

God calls us all to action on their behalf. Some of us will be the ones who bring them into families, while others will be mouthpieces for those who cannot speak for themselves. Others will play a role in funding these things. Each of us have a part to play.

Here are some ideas for those wanting to help:

1. In honor of the dream we’ve shared, which inspired this site, we’d like to ask you to pray when you’re checking out at the store (especially when you’re at Target), and take the purchase price of any unneeded item (or items) that you’re buying and instead of purchasing the item(s), give that money to orphans. (We intend to add something to the site soon that will allow us all to post what we’ve donated in this way, and hopefully it will enable us to see how our simple sacrifices can bring about significant help.)

2. Sell something and donate the money to help an orphan in need or to help a fundraising adoptive family. We all have extra stuff we don’t need, so maybe there is something you can put to use for the orphans.

3. Hold a fundraiser at your school, church, neighborhood, or club. Have a bake sale, a car wash, anything you think could generate income. It may require an investment of your time, but it’s so worth it.

4. Link this site to your Facebook page, and spread the word.

5. Go blog surfing (see links on the right) and find adoptive families who are struggling to raise the necessary funds, and give to their cause.

6. Go to feedingtheorphans.com and sponsor a child for $25 per month to eat, or however much per month you decide. You can even buy a cute t-shirt that will feed an orphan for a month!

7. Go to projectglobalhope.org and you can give to one of the many awesome projects they are doing to help orphans in Ghana, Africa.

8. Go to bridgetozion.com to help bring home Zion and provide food for his orphanage.

9. Spend time praying for the orphans of the world, and advocating on their behalf. There are many children in need of homes, so maybe you know of someone who is interested in adopting. You might make a huge difference in an orphan’s life, just by telling others about orphans, and raising awareness that they are there, in need of loving families and support.

10. Start a side business and donate a portion of the profits…

Whatever you do, just remember that every little action will make a huge difference in the life of an orphan.
